What’s Free at CMA Fest?
You don’t have to be registered to listen to music at multiple stages, visit the open areas, or pick up freebies from outdoor vendors.
No, you’re not going to see Blake Shelton, Carly Pearce, Keith Urban, or Shaboozey for free–but CMA Fest boasts 5 stages that don’t require a ticket, lanyard, or wristband. Here’s a map to what’s where.
The largest free venue, c’mon down to the river where there’s tiered areas (and hopefully a little breeze).
This stage is right behind Ascend Park at the foot of the John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge which crosses the river.
Located in the park between the Downtown Hilton and the Country Music Hall of Fame, it’s a busy place with various vendors and home to the Music City Walk of Fame.
Head to the intersection of 5th (aka Rep. John Lewis Way) and Broadway for this stage that anchors the west end of the Honky Tonk Highway. It’s directly in front of the entrance to Bridgestone Arena.
Directly in front of the Hard Rock Cafe, it distinguishes itself by offering both day and evening performances.
Located in Fan Alley and new this year, it’s devoted to up-and-coming artists.
And don’t forget, there’s free music in all the honky tonks on Broadway as well as many venues beyond Broadway. The only exception: if a private event (like fan club party) is being held.
Personally I think it’s a been a little less engaging the past few years but there’s still a lot to take in. You’ll find freebies–like Sugar Bee apples. Several exhibitors offer carnival-style games–win a frisbee, a water bottle, a drink koozie–you get the idea. Some folks just want to show off their latest and greatest so expect to see some shiny new cars or big-ticket items.

Honestly this is half the fun for me. Make a game out of it. Who’s wearing the most obnoxious t-shirt? Who REALLY doesn’t need to dress like that? Who’s limping in new cowboy boots? Who’s got the worst sunburn? Best tattoo? Worst tattoo?
