Vintage Boutiques and Thrift Shops

Browsing Nashville’s Vintage Boutiques and Thrift Shops

Looking for retro fashions, cool jewelry, unique accessories, and other must-have discoveries? You’re in luck. Let’s tour Nashville’s vintage boutiques and thrift shops. (Thanks to shop-happy foraging friends for their input.)

I’ve organized these retailers, traveling north from downtown. Don’t be fooled: Main Street and Gallatin Pike are the same road.

Bowery Vault

2905-C Gallatin Pike, 2nd floor. Looking for an uncommon t-shirt? This might be your destination. Their inventory includes collector’s items, hand-painted t-shirts, and custom t’s. But there’s more: vintage denim, western wear, vintage wear, and private label leather. You can order beer and expresso, plus the boutique plays host to live music and album release parties; check the schedule for upcoming events.

Torres Vintage

3111 Gallatin Pike. Named “Best Vintage Curator” in the Nashville Scene’s Writers Poll, Maria Torres has packed her shop in Inglewood with all manner of snazzy and savvy women’s fashions.

Anaconda Vintage

1062 E. Trinity Lane, Suite 101. Semi-hidden behind Grimey’s record store, browse their collections of women’s and men’s fashions, shoes, sunglasses, jewelry, handbags, and home goods. I don’t think their apothecary section is considered vintage.

Star Struck Vintage

604 Gallatin Ave #100. Men, women, kids, accessories, and collectibles.

Goodbuy Girls

1108 Woodland Street, Unit E.  Wide selection of cowgirl boots along with hats, jewelry, and accessories.

Hip Zipper Vintage Clothiers

1008 Forrest Avenue, Suite A. Ladies and gentlemen, find your finds here. In addition to vintage apparel, you’ll find shoes, boots, hats, purses, eyewear, belts, and jewelry. T-shirts too. They’ve been around since 1999–which is close to forever in the boutique business.

Music City Vintage

2503 Gallatin Pike. If you’re looking for a retro pair of sneakers, this is your place–but not just for shoes. Their store includes home goods, posters, pennants, collectibles, boom boxes, video games, baseball caps, and a ton of clothes for men, women, and youth.

Old Made Good

1114 Porter Road. Original art, clothing, jewelry, naughty needlepoint.

Black Shag Vintage

1220 Gallatin Pike. Located in a cool old fire hall, this is rock’n’roll nirvana with a load of hip t-shirts, tour wear, leather, denim, sweatshirts, jackets, and funky accessories for men and women. Stuff for hip kids too. There’s even a section of collectible vinyl.

Garage Sale Vintage

747 Douglas Avenue, #101. GSV has a bar serving up cocktails and mocktails when you tire of prowling their seemingly random (but clearly curated) collection of stuff.

Transmigration Vintage

508 Davidson Street. It’s in an industrial district AND in the rear of a building so happy hunting for it. But when you do, you’ll hit paydirt of retro western wear, funky women’s clothes, and more.

High Class Hillbilly

4604 Gallatin Pike. The name kinda says it all. Funky, retro, making the corny hypercool. Nothing bargain bin here.

Backslide Vintage

4606 Gallatin Pike. Something for everyone here–clothing, accessories, records. Larger men’s department than most places. And they frequently have storewide sales. Winner of the Nashville Scene‘s “Best of Nashville” competition for vintage stores.

Locations beyond East Nashville

Not as many but there might be one close to your lodging.

Garage Sale Vintage

5040 Broadway, Downtown. Yes, there’s one in East Nashville too. This one is in the Fifth and Broadway complex. It seems a little out of place but once you step inside, the garage sale vibe takes over.

Buffalo Exchange

2214 Elliston Place, Midtown. Aptly located on Nashville’s historic Rock Block, Buffalo Exchange is the home of new and recycled fashion. Popular with Vandy co-eds.

Bits & Pieces

402 Madison Street, Germantown. Do people still use the term “bric’a’brac”? They’ve got that as well as crafts, antiques, and clothes.

Starland Emporium

210 8th Avenue, S., halfway between The Gulch and Melrose. Home to the vintage and unusual, you’ll find all sorts of conversation-starters among their collectibles. The shop stocks furniture, furnishings, glassware, housewares, posters, and stuff you don’t know how you’ve lived without.

Savant Vintage

2302 12th Avenue, S., 12South. Feels more like an upscale boutique than a vintage shop but it’s filled with curious items.

Wicked Ollie’s

2416 Music Valley Drive near Opryland Hotel. How they describe their inventory: “vintage clothing, baubles & kitsch from the 1920’s-Y2K!” I’ll add that they’ve got a bunch of western wear too. And strangely Ernest Tubb’s tour bus is parked inside the store.

Vinterest

2416 Music Valley Drive near Opryland Hotel. What’s here? An eclectic mix of old, new, up-cycled, recycled, current trends and more!  “Etsy in real life,” it’s been called.

Live True Vintage

103 22nd Street, Old Hickory. It’s a bit out of zone for the typical Nashville visitor but, if you’re on a quest for cool clothes and miscellanea, who cares? Right? The racks are well-organized and loaded with women’s wear–from the refined to the ribald. And they’re ready for the men and kids too.

Cool Stuff Weird Things

4900 Charlotte Pike, West Nashville. Look for the Elvis statue outside, a foreshadowing that this place is a little funky. Inside you’ll find home decor, furniture, and whatever weird items that decide fits their vibe. A tidy little record collection too.

The Luxury Label

2120 Crestmoor Rd, Suite 3001, Green Hills. Described at “Nashville’s first consignment boutique to exclusively offer only the finest luxury brands,” they specialize in high-end, designer brands at discounted prices.  Deep inventory of handbags and accessories.

Store 5a

2805 Green Hills Village Drive, Green Hills. How do you define bargains? This shop offers one-of-a-kind pre-owened desinger jewelry, watches, handbags, and accessories from top brands including Rolex, Cartier, Louis Vuitton, Hermes, Tiffany, and Gucci at up to 70% off retail.

Ladies of Charity Thrift Store

It’s only open a few months throughout the year but my wife and I have found bargains on quality clothing. Not heavy into funky threads.

Pop-Up in Hillsboro Village

1820 21st Avenue, S., Hillsboro Village. Taking over the parking lot of Hillsboro Village Auto Service on weekends, this pop-up boutique is home to several vendors including sellers of vintage merchandise. (No website.)

The Find

230 Franklin Rd Suite 11D/E, Franklin. Located inside The Factory, my fashion-savvy friend Alex describes it as “a treasure trove of carefully curated secondhand and vintage clothing for men, women, and children handpicked for their quality, craftsmanship, and trend appeal. She applauds their team for their ability to anticipate future trends. She monitors their Instagram account for style inspiration and has purchased items directly off of their in-store mannequins.

Nashville’s General Merchandise Thrift Stores

Here’s a roster of our larger thrift stores. Generally speaking, you’re more likely to find bargains but you’re not likely to have designer brands or limited-edition items–but ya never know…
